Career Consultant

Location: Edmonton, AB

Our Career Consultants are passionate about helping others to succeed in achieving their employment/ career goals.  The successful candidate(s) will be self-motivated, energetic individuals who are creative at developing success strategies for their clients.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct Client Needs Determination/ Employability Assessment to assess suitability of the program/ service requirements
  • Prepare service plan with Client; coach clients; consult with managers or supervisors to address issues or concerns; use Mobius for client record management
  • Assist clients to identify employment/ career interests & goals; develop Service Plans; prepare effective cover letter(s), resume &; assist clients to gain confidence & proficiency in the job interview; teach job search or research skills;
  • Help clients to learn effective job search strategies through small group workshops & one to one counselling
  • Establish business networks; identify employers and actively promote appropriate jobseekers to them; provide post-employment support to clients & employers
  • Collaborate with community organizations for benefit of clients; implement marketing plan and develop employer partnerships
  • Maintain administrative/ record keeping requirements

Qualifications Include:

  • Post-Secondary education, or related experience, in career development, social sciences or human services
  • Experience providing Career Counselling/ Coaching with clients who have 10-15 years of experience in the workforce
  • Demonstrated experience in career consulting or related profession
  • Understanding of, and demonstrated application of, the Career Planning process
  • Proficiency in the following: job search techniques; employment and job search skills, which includes writing professional résumés and cover letters, high impact job interviews, and effective job search skills; instructional design and group instruction; case management
  • A demonstrated interest in working with jobseekers & the capacity to coach & support these people through exploring, attaining & keeping a job
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal competencies that enable: a) effective participation in a team environment including problem solving and conflict resolution skills b) canvassing employers to find job vacancies and negotiating to place clients in those vacancies, and c) successful management of time, priorities, tasks, change and stress
  • Current knowledge of Edmonton community supports and the local labour market
  • Knowledge of Mobius is an asset. Proficiency with current computer applications is required
  • Enthusiasm and initiative with a commitment to excel in service delivery
